Reinhard Kuehl

In his photo series Reinhard Kuehl produces a skillful deception. The pictures resemble amateurishly taken snapshot, in fact they are the result of laborious arrangements. Kuehl places modelled figures before a real world background and takes his pictures with a pinhole camera. Thus, the result is an impressive photography in which arrangement and reality merge transitionless into a new entity. As a painter Kuehl continues his playful approach to human perception. Starting from the perspective of a photographer and the possibilities of photographic rendition, many paintings look like a view through the finder of a camera. This effect is even strengthened by the use of stylistic devices like blurring or representing the motive as picture negative.
