Ilker Basirli

In the center of Ilker Basirli`s sensitive and profound works lies the examination of human existence. This is demonstrated in his series of small paintings in which the young artist creates human figures enclosed by meat-colored rectangles. These figures appear to be imprisoned in a box; however Basirli offers another interpretation. Beside one of the figures he places a cardboard labelled "fragile". The obvious association: The figures in the rectangles are fragile, fading and volatile themselves. However, in other works his dealings with human existence is finer, more subtle and not always identifiable at first sight. Technically Basirli`s pictures create a fascination with the correlation of factual contouring and the conscious positioning of dynamic elements. Due to this, intense picture atmospheres develop - an effect which is intensified by Basirli’s choice of colours. His works impress with their high level of conceptual and mental depth.
